It is almost fall here in Chicago, and I’m celebrating it! I made this unique thematic map of Points of Interest in the US that has the word “Pumpkin” in them as a way to make a fall-themed map in GIS. I put this map together quickly using ArcGIS Online and data from Safegraph. Curious how I did this?
Would you like to make a map like this?
I made a video taking you step by step through the process.
1. Go to https://developers.arcgis.com/vector-tile-style-editor/ to modify a base map.
2. we use coolors.co to pick out colors that we want to use for our map
3. You can add the SafeGraph place data from the Esri Marketplace (Note: as of Sept 2021 the last update of this data was October of 2020)
. 4. Add the data to the map.
5. Add a filter and we want the name to “contain” pumpkin
6. Set your symbology!
7. Share this out with the world!
As always, I’m curious what your thoughts are and I’d love to know if you make a map using this process!
