The #GeospatialConnections Clubhouse weekly chat has been a fantastic thing for my marriage.
Yup. You read that right. How in the world could my weekly lunch-time chat about all things #geospatial and #gis be a great thing for my marriage?
Well here’s the thing. Jefferson, my spouse, is the best but he HATES doing laundry. I don’t love doing laundry, but I don’t mind it. In our marriage we try to split things in a way so that if someone really dislikes a task they don’t do it. For laundry, I just wouldn’t prioritize it.
I realized early on in our clubhouse chats that I could do something else while talking– but it had to be quiet. I realized that it was a great time to put away laundry! Now every week both Jefferson and I know that “Geospatial Connections Club Time” is laundry time. Jefferson takes the laundry down (it is pre-sorted because we have a philosophy of touch-once so it goes into a laundry sorter in our bedroom) and starts the laundry. If he’s working from home his job is to keep it moving through the process. If not, I have reminders set up on my phone to run down and move the laundry over to the dryer and put new loads in.
But as with many people getting the clothes clean is one thing… but putting them away is another. That’s the beauty of our weekly chat. Putting away laundry is the perfect “multi-task” on that call. It requires almost ZERO brainpower to do, so I can be an active participant in the conversation. At the end of our conversation, my cup is filled with great conversations with brilliant geospatial minds (including Bruce Buxton, 「BONNY MCCLAIN」”rub some data in it”, Tim Nolan) and I get the laundry done and put away.
