Are you thinking about applying for a new role in the new year and looking for ways to brush up on your interviewing skills? In this blog post, we’ll walk you through using Chat GPT and Otter.AI (aff link), a new AI open interface, to practice your interview skills for a GIS Analyst role.

First and foremost, it’s important to note that practicing interview skills face-to-face is crucial for preparing for a dream interview. l love doing this through my 1:1 GIS Career Coaching. However, using Chat GPT as a supplement can be a helpful way to practice on your own. In this video, we’ll also be using Otter.AI (aff link), an AI-based voice transcription service, to help with the practice.

Prompt Chat GPT to start a GIS Interview

To get started, you’ll need to have a prompt ready. We recommend copying and pasting the following into Chat GPT:

"I want you to act as an interviewer. I will be the candidate and you will ask me the interview questions for a GIS Analyst role. This is a role in the [insert industry] industry. Will be responsible for [insert job responsibilities]. I want you to only reply as the interviewer. Do not write all the conversation at once. Please ask only one question at a time. I want you to only do the interview with me. Ask me one question at a time and wait for my answers. Do not write explanations. Ask me the questions one by one like an interviewer does and wait for my answers. My first sentence is 'Hi'."

Once you’ve pasted the prompt into Chat GPT, the AI will begin to ask you questions as an interviewer would. You can then respond as if you were the candidate in a real interview. As you go through the questions and answers, OTTER.AI will transcribe the conversation.

Use Otter.AI To Transcribe Your Interview Answers

Using Chat GPT and OTTER.AI as practice tool can help you become more comfortable with the interviewing process and allow you to identify areas where you may need to improve. While it’s not a replacement for face-to-face practice, it can be a helpful supplement in your preparation for a GIS Analyst interview.
