In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I volunteered with the Lake County Health Department to create a social vulnerability index based on the composite of the local community and the specific vulnerabilities we knew that communities would face in light of the global pandemic. Rather than just using the standard SOVI Variables expanded the analysis and included:
- Distance to work
- Distance to Grocery and Pharmacy
- Financial Data
The SOVI was used by members of the health department to understand the disparities in the COVID-19 cases in the community.
